- I spent my first two decades in Germany, then moved to the UK where I stayed for another twenty, followed by nearly six years in Spain.
- In July 2017, I moved back to Germany, after 26 years abroad and am currently trying to re-adjust to life here, and get over the "reverse culture shock."
- I am bilingual in German and English, fairly competent in Spanish, and inching my way towards advanced level in Portuguese. I've also dabbled in French and Russian (and a few other languages in the distant past) but not managed to crack any of them.
- I am not a linguist in the strict sense of the word, i.e. I don't hold any academic qualifications in this area nor do I work in the field of languages as such. Having said that, they do come in quite handy in my work as a freelancer.
- Like most people I know, I've grown up in a monolingual environment. I did not manage to speak a second language fluently until early adulthood.
- This blog was born out of the desire to share my day-to-day experiences of a multilingual life and to connect with others who find languages as rewarding as I do.
